First thing's first...Pop the Cork!

So, my 5 day trip to western Ireland was amazing.. so beautiful and serene. The people are much nicer as well. Tuesday we took an 8am bus to Cork (4 hours) and arrived at lunch time in the somewhat poopy weather. We saw the Blarney Castle, which was just wonderful, before going back to Cork to explore the city. Blarney was really pretty, which was a surprise considering we were expecting just another castle. But Ireland has SO much history, more than the United States and many other places in the world. There are village ruins that date back 5,000 years or so- that's before the Egyptian pyramids. Now that's impressive.
So Cork was a nice city too- like a mini-Dublin. They have the Beamish brewery there, a few cool gothic cathedrals, but mostly a really quaint city centre. It wasn't an over crowded city, so it was enjoyable to walk around. That evening we ate at a nice bistro, where I ordered a goat cheese salad=amazing! Dairy products are best in Ireland- it's official! The cows just get so many nutrients and they get to eat in the fields like NORMAL COWS. They aren't mass produced and fattened up in Ireland like they are in America.
That night we stayed with my friend Tyler from Iowa, who I met through my friend Alyssa at Rutgers. He let us take his whole room, and he slept on the common room sofa- very nice of him. Tuesday night we hit up a few bars, the most memorable: The Franciscan Well, a microbrewery. It had a cute beer garden in the back, and I ordered a pint of the Blonde. It was a light German-like wheat beer. Very nice. We were pooped though, so we turned in early (like, 1am). The city is also more hilly than Dublin, so that added another dimension to it. It's nice to have some height in a city. Dublin is just flat, flat, flat.
We woke up early on Wednesday to go to Killarney, a very very cute town. (Read the next blog for Killarney stories)...
